Introduction: Why We Believe
- The goal of the Romans study is to build a foundation that remains unshaken during difficult seasons.
- Paul’s words serve as a preparation for the trials believers will inevitably face.
I. The Definition of the Remnant
- God’s Faithfulness: Paul uses his own heritage as proof that God has not rejected His people.
- Perspective vs. Reality: Just as Elijah felt alone while God had reserved 7,000 faithful followers, believers today are never truly isolated.
- The Choice to Reject: A remnant exists because the masses willfully and deliberately choose their own plans over God’s word.
II. Grace vs. Works
- The Gift of Grace: The remnant is chosen by grace alone; if it were earned by works, it would no longer be grace.
- The Danger of Ritual: Many miss God by replacing a relationship with Jesus with rules, rituals, and ceremonies.
- Discipline vs. Punishment:
- Discipline: A temporary "hardening" for a season and a reason, intended to bring people back into alignment with God.
- Punishment: The eternal result of a final rejection of God's grace.
III. The Remnant’s Mission
- Proclaim the Gospel: Share that salvation is found in Christ alone.
- Live as Examples: Model God-honoring morality that offers a peaceful alternative to worldly anxiety.
- Challenge Thinking, Not People: Address ungodly decision-making and rebellious logic while maintaining love for the individual.
- Declare the Truth: Stand firm on the reality of the one true God and the only way to eternity.
- Reach the Next Generation: Use the church as a healthy environment to "pass the baton" of faith to those following behind.
Conclusion: Being the Church
- The church is not merely a place for personal growth, but a place to "be" the active body of Christ.
- Believers are called to carry the torch faithfully, ensuring the gospel continues to spread everywhere.
